I capture the last breath of the day…a calm quiet like no other. I didn’t want this day to end as it had yet to begin. The stillness was captivating – surreal. When an ending is complete with no fanfare there is an absence that hangs in the air. An unfairness that it was supposed to end a different way, maybe with applause or fireworks. This end was melancholic, a haze of sadness that clouded the relief. I’m sad, because this ending is what it is like to finish the ride alone.
I exit on the eaves of stillness and tiptoe away from unfinished conversations. I sit in quiet contemplation. Extending kindness through allowing peace by freeing the reigns tied to another. Broken expectations lie crumpled at my feet, a fleeting nod to what was once hope on a chest of healing.
